Week 22> Groundhog Day

Week of January 29>  Review Week>  Sight Words, Listening Comprehension and Writing Assessments will be done this week.

Tuesday, January 30>  Grandparent Mass at 8:15 (we will meet you in the church): breakfast to follow in the auditorium

**We will be attending Mass that morning.  Please have your child in the classroom by the 8:00 bell.  I will be opening the doors around 7:40 in order to get the children checked in and to use the bathroom.  If your child is tardy, you will need to check them into the office and walk them to the church to meet us.  They wear their Regular School Uniform.

Thursday, February 1> 

‘Give food to the poor and Drink to the thirsty’

*School Spirit / Jean’s Day -$2 minimum donation. The money will go to Fr. Mark and Sister Mary Jennifer’s School and Orphanage in Tanzania to feed the students and provide clean drinking water.

February 5>  New Homework Packet goes home and is due February 23:  Included with this packet is a Presidents’ Day Research Report that is due on Tuesday February 20th.

February 6>  100th Day Of School>  baggie of 100 pennies due today

February, 12 and 14>  Health Screenings

Friday, February 9> Quick Check Assessment

Tuesday, February 13>   Valentine Card DUE today

Wednesday, February, 14>  Valentine Card Exchange (not a party); Ash Wednesday Mass at 1:30

Thursday, February 15>  Quick Check Assessment

No School>>>Friday, February 16-19th

Tuesday, February 20>  return to school; Presidents’ Day Report Due

 

 

Schedule of Specials: 

Tuesday and Thursday (PE): children wear PE short and shirt with approved tennis shoes and plain white socks.  Light-Up shoes and socks with color/emblems are not allowed.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday (Spanish, music, guidance):   children wear regular uniforms (no PE).  Approved shoes and navy socks are required.  Tennis shoes are not to be worn on these days.  Belts are required if there are belt loops.  Hair accessories are limited to the colors found in the uniform.

Academic Themes for the Week

Topic: Groundhog Day

Look for their Weekly Emergent Readers to go home on Fridays.  I encourage you to save these weekly emergent reader books in a special place:  a treasure box or special basket.  Whenever they want to pull out a story to read to you, they can select a story from their special story box.

Reading Block:    Capitalization & Punctuation; Blending; Writing a Complete Sentence; Rhyming; Making Predictions and Inferences

Word Study:   Introduction to Blends; -en word family introduction, *ESGI for lower case letter sound identification

Writing:  Shared Writing>  Working on helping the children gain confidence in stretching out the sounds they hear when writing.  Extra practice at home is needed.

Sight Words: Review Week

Math Block:  share a whole by separating it into two equal parts;compare sets of objects and numbers through 6;weigh objects using nonstandard units and order objects by weight

Science/Social Studies/Art:  Groundhog Day; Shadows

Religion:  The Apostles; Our Lady of Guadalupe

Provocation Station Question:  Can you make a rock tower?  How many rocks did you use? Draw a picture of your rock tower.
